I don’t know why people have such high expectations for Google Chrome. I was on Twitter today (www.twitter.com/thechristianguy) and about 25% of the posts I read about Chrome were something to the effect of:
“I like it, but it’s not going to replace Firefox for me. It doesn’t have _____. It’s not as good as _____”
I guess I don’t understand what they’re complaining about. It’s an entirely new browser put out by a company that hasn’t put out a browser before. Even though they, Google, have a LOT of web experience, aren’t we putting the bar a tad too high? I, for one, am glad it doesnt have all the bells and whistles yet. Being a software developer in my day job, I realize the need to test things, get feedback, make adjustments, etc etc, so I applaud Google for doing things right! This is the way software development should go; companies shouldn’t just put things out there without any testing, betas (and maybe alphas), etc, etc. I think we just have a higher expectation because it’s Google, afterall, and we’re used to them putting out awesome products on the web like Google Adsense, Google Analytics, Google Webmaster Tools, Gmail, Google Reader, the list is endless :) But lets give Google some props for going out in a totally new area, putting out a really cool product with TONS of potential, and doing it right!
